I’m not afraid to admit: I LOVE my power tools. My garage is full of them: power drills, saws, sanders, you name it. I even have a power washer and a power leaf blower.
And I take excellent care of my tools because I know they’re an enormous investment. But just like any other tool, they need the right accessories to function at their best.
That’s why, today, I want to talk about power tool accessories. These are must-have items that any power tool user should have on hand, regardless of what kind of project they’re working on. Trust me, having the right accessories will make your life much easier – and your work will turn out better too.
So, without further ado, here is the ultimate list of power tool accessories:
1. Power Drill Accessories
Drill Bits
Of course, you need drill bits! But did you know there are different drill bits for other materials? Make sure you have the correct type of bit for the job at hand, or you might damage your drill – and the material you’re trying to drill into.
Different Drill Bit Types
Here are some of the different drill bit attachments you can add to your garage or workshop:
Twist drill bits
These are the most common type of drill bits. I use them for drilling into wood, plastic, and metal. My last job was drilling many holes into metal, and I went through about 10 drill bits!
Spade bits
These have a pointed tip and can drill large holes in wood. My favorite project with spade bits is making a birdhouse – the hole has to be big enough for the bird to get in, after all!
Auger bits
I use these for drilling deep, narrow holes, such as plumbing or electrical work. A great tip is to use a piece of tape around the bit attachment as a depth guide so you don’t drill too deep and damage whatever is behind the wall.
Paddle bits
These are great for drilling wide holes in wood. I have used paddle bits for making TV stands, for example. Once, I needed to make a hole for the Ethernet to go through, and this type of bit made it a breeze.
Hole saws
A hole saw is a tool if you need to make a big hole in wood, metal, or plastic. A few years ago I used one to make a cat door in a door for my previous home.
Step drill bits
These are great for making holes in thin metal, such as for air conditioning work.
2. Power Drill Attachments

You can also buy a level attachment that goes on your drill bit. This helps make sure your holes are perfectly level. I have a few different size levels that I use depending on the project.
Angler
An angler attachment helps you drill at a perfect 90-degree angle.
