Sazerac Cocktail

This is a lovely drink that can be made with rye or cognac. I’d recommend using both. I personally really enjoy the spicy bite of rye and the sweetness of cognac combined in a Sazerac, a flavor that complements the Peychaud’s bitters and absinthe rinse beautifully. This is a booze-forward drink served straight up that is not for everyone but, once-accustomed, possesses a balance and aroma that is hard to resist.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 oz rye
  • 1 oz cognac
  • 1 white sugar cube
  • ¼ oz of absinthe
  • Angostura bitters
  • Peychaud’s bitters
  • Lemon zest

Instructions
 

  • Add your absinthe to a glass that is chilling with ice and rinse the absinthe throughout
  • Once the glass is chilled, discard the absinthe
  • In a mixing glass, combine the sugar, a splash of water (¾ oz) and 2 dashes each of Angostura and Peychaud’s. Muddle together
  • Add the rye and cognac, ice, and stir until chilled and lightly diluted

  • Strain into your absinthe-rinsed glass, zest the rim and stem with lemon zest.
