We analyzed 236,266 bathroom designs, which including assessing the cost to design and create those bathrooms and we concluded that approximately 13% of bathrooms are reported to fall into the luxury bathroom category.
Please keep in mind that the “luxury bathrooms” categorization was based on self-reporting so it’s probably skewed a little high. I doubt 13% of bathrooms are truly luxury; however, it gives you an idea that such expensive bathrooms are not common.
This gallery takes luxury to a whole new level. These are huge, very expensive primary bathrooms in a wide variety of styles, colors and materials. Two things they all have in common is they cost a lot of money and they’re large. In fact, some are bigger than small apartments.

I think there’s too much unused space here, but what I really like about this bathroom is the dressing room feature with clothing storage open-cabinetry. It’s a nice touch because it offers a great place to place clothes.
A Primary Bathroom Wing
It doesn’t get more luxurious looking than this massive bathroom. It’s like the bathroom is its own separate wing. I also love all the windows although I find the door a bit of an add feature… but perhaps it makes for easy access from the pool.
Exciting, but Unified Tile Work with Massive Custom Walk-in Shower and Separate Built-in Custom Tub
This primary bathroom must be approaching 1,000 square feet. I love the exciting tile work in the large, custom walk-in shower that matches the interior and exterior tile work on the custom built-in tub. This is truly a spa-like bathroom.
Room-Length Skylights
You don’t have to be a multi-millionaire to place skylights in your primary bathroom. This example is really cool because the skylights run the length of the bathroom and they’re built into the apex of the cathedral ceiling.
2-In-1 with Incredible Ceiling
The most notable feature in the bathroom above is the ceiling. It’s a series of arches and domes towering over the large, but intimately designed primary bathroom. It also features two separate vanities separated by a tub. It features custom work throughout.
Gleaming White with Lots of Glass
If you like white luxury bathrooms, this one is for you. However, it’s not modern white, it’s traditional which gives it a bit more personality than sleek modern bathrooms. The white is enhanced with plenty of glass including large mirrors and the all-glass walk-in shower.
Mediterranean Primarypiece Fit for a Roman Emporer
You could envision Caesar Augustus using such a bathroom with the extensive Italian design throughout including color scheme and rich wood work. Notice the full-length wide mirror on the left – that’s a really nice bathroom feature.
The Rambling McMansion Luxury Bath
Above is expensive but it lacks a cohesive design. It’s kind of cool with the bathtub alcove but there is just too much going on design-wise. Perhaps you like this kind of look and because it’s no doubt expensive, we included it (we don’t include only designs we like).
Elegantly Contemporary with White and Dark Contrasting Design
Aside from the large open space in the middle, this is nearly a perfect design. I love the white and dark brown contrast. I love the flush-mounted walk-in shower. I love the flat-panel vanity cabinetry and of course the large dark brown freestanding tub. I would add a dark brown large tufted rectangle ottoman in the open space.
Updated Old Results in Spectacular
What a lovely renovation this bathroom underwent. It’s clearly updated but preserves some of the old design elements including the long narrow shape, free standing tub and the ornamental cabinetry. However, this luxury primary bathroom does not lack any contemporary comforts.
Large Custom Half-Moon Walk-in Shower
The star here is the large half-moon shape walk-in shower. It’s very cool and looks great. It definitely gives you an ideas as to what’s possible with custom shower design.
Marvelous Marble with Chandeliers
Objectively speaking, this should be on gaudy looking bathroom, but it’s not. It has loads of marble and a couple of chandeliers, yet has a simple vibe. I love the marble walls which really takes this bathroom to the next level.
Gray and White with Bathtub Alcove
Here’s a galley layout primary bathroom with a freestanding tub in the center. I like the floor tile work as well and of course the two long vanities are outstanding.
A Glassed-in Shower Room
Walk-in showers are getting ridiculously big. Here’s such an example that includes built-in shelving and a seat. Not only do walk-in showers look great, they’re very functional and a terrific design for anyone with mobility challenges.
Elegantly Masculine
I love the almost black vanities. I’m nuts about the large tufted ottoman. I love the rich dark brown hardwood floors. However, I can’t for the life of me figure out the choice of pattern for the step-up tub. It ruins this otherwise stunning bathroom.
Welcome to the Club
Above is definitely a masculine primary bathroom design that appears like some 19th century private gentleman’s club. It’s loaded with custom wood panelling as well as large custom wooden vanities and wood panelling on the outside of the tub. I like it, but it’s definitely masculine in design.
The Superstar Soaker
With floor pattern like that, it makes this bathroom look like a stage with the soaker tub the super star. I like this glamorous bathroom because of the glamorous, yet masculine touches it includes. It’s a great design idea and clearly top-shelf materials were used throughout.
Southwestern Luxury
Dome ceiling, a little iron work, custom gray-brown cabinetry, center tub, white tufted ottoman and a vanity area all on medium-hardwood give this custom bathroom a subtle southwestern look… but not overly so. I really like this design and love the light the windows provide.
Wood From Floor to Ceiling
Normally I don’t like wood from floor to ceiling like this, but for some reason it works spectacularly in this bathroom. It’s a simple design with straight lines and different levels. It looks like a large bathroom inside a sauna… maybe it is one huge sauna?
Arches, Arches & Arches
With an arched dome ceiling, archway doors and arch-style curve on the tub this is one arch-focused primary bathroom that looks absolutely amazing. It has a Mediterranean style vibe with the aged wood cabinetry along with wood-framed mirrors and beige tile work.
Awesome Layout
I love how the vanities flank the tub and walk-in shower. It’s a symmetry I like (I prefer symmetry over asymmetry in design). However, this bathroom is spectacular for reasons beyond the layout. The cream colored tile work contrasts beautifully with the rich, dark custom cabinets.
All That Space and Then a Tiny Shower?
This is a gorgeous luxury bathroom in every respect, even the blue-gray cabinetry until you see the tiny walk-in shower. It doesn’t really fit in the space… it’s simply too small. But I’m nitpicking obviously because otherwise this is one gorgeous primary bathroom.
Lots Going On… Too Much?
With four different tile work patterns and colors, this is one very busy bathroom design-wise. I’m not sure what to focus on…my eyes get pulled all over. However, this is one richly outfitted primary bathroom that could be simplified but has a luxuriousness nevertheless.
The Luxury Mall Bathroom
I jest when saying “mall bathroom” but that’s kind of the sense I get because it’s a long curve layout, much being in a mall turning a slight corner. I think there are some very interesting design ideas in this bathroom. The space is well used, but I think it’s a little disjointed, each feature separate from other features. I suppose that gives it the mall look – a series of “separate stores” so-to-speak.
Modern Masculine with a Touch of Space-Age
I really love the walk-in shower and how it’s seamlessly attached to the built-in tub with the same pattern. Moreover, it’s even cooler with the curvature running entire length of the bathroom. Note as well there’s a small fireplace perched at the end of the tub.
The Oasis
I’m all about placing comfortable chairs throughout a home, but this has an odd look to it. It looks like people are going to hang out, one in the tub and the other relaxing in the chair. I guess it’s not super odd, but definitely not a bathroom feature you see often.
Beachy Keen
Forgive the overdone photoshopping of this bathroom (it’s too keenly white), and you’ll see a spectacular beach primary bathroom all in white with a lot of windows and an incredible cathedral wood-beamed ceiling (also painted in white).
The Bathroom Tower
Looking at this bathroom and it’s round shape, I get a sense of it being at the top of a tower which is fabulous. I like the patterned floor aginst the stark white ottoman and free standing tub. The cool blue glass of the walk-in shower provides just enough color.
The Ship’s Luxury Bathroom
I feel like I’m on the bridge of an old yacht in this bathroom with the wide wood-framed windows. All that wood contrasts starkly with the crisp white bathroom. I think the bathroom needs a bit more wood to tie in with the wood-framed windows.
The Palatial Primary Bathroom
This could be straight out of a gilded robber baron mansion with beautiful tile and stone work throughout and then the gold steps leading to the step-up bathtub. As ostentatious as this design is, I like it. It’s very well done; there aren’t too many patterns and the windows break up the patterns that otherwise would be too busy.
Classic McMansion (But I Like It Anyway)
This house just screams McMansion, but I love this bathroom anyway. I love all the windows, the wood floor, the simple free standing tub, the walk-in shower and the addition of a chaise lounge. It’s very well done; a bathroom design I’d take any day of the week. No expense spared (McMansions aren’t necessarily cheap).
The Rich Safari-Style Bathroom
Boom! I love this bathroom design. Check out the stone floor which matches the custom stone work. The chocolate cabinetry adds a nice contrast to the earth tones and the copper tub and leather ottoman tie it all together. The chandelier adds a touch of elegance.
Marble Is Arguably the Most Perfect-Looking Stone?
It’s too bad that marble is not as durable or scratch resistant as porcelain tile because when it comes to looks, nothing beats marble. I love it. I love the softness of it too (soft relative to tile). I love the contrast between white and dark veins. I think it’s the perfect primary bathroom stone and for that reason I have a soft spot for all bathrooms that feature marble.
