With a heat level that most people can enjoy, jalapenos add just a little bit of hot pepper kick to various kinds of cuisine. Many people who cannot stand very hot and spicy meals can tolerate jalapeno peppers.  One of the very favorite hot peppers of many Americans, jalapeno peppers are a thick fleshed pepper that is usually bright green and cheerful.

It is about 3 inches long and can be mixed into a wide variety of recipes. In the United States, most jalapenos are grown in Mexico.  You can  get jalapenos in green or red.

The red peppers are the more ripe version of the same fruit. They are a bit sweeter than the green version and less hot.

Notes

Did you know that jalapeno peppers might help you lose or control your weight? The secret to this is the chemical that makes hot peppers hot--capsaicin. Capsaicin is a thermogenic chemical which stimulates the body to burn fat.
By including some capsaicin containing foods in your diet, as you reduce your consumption of sugar and fatty foods, you may end up losing weight. Some studies have shown that capsaicin lowered the caloric intake of study participants and reduced fat levels.
What if you are not a fan of jalapenos? That is okay. You can slowly start including them in your diet and gradually turn up the heat of the foods that you eat.
The flesh of a jalapeno is fairly mild, so to enjoy them without setting a sensitive palate on fire, you should cut your jalapeno pepper in half and scrape out the seeds and white insides of the pepper. By just eating the pepper’s flesh, you probably won’t suffer too much if you are sensitive to spicy foods. You can use a jalapeno like you would a bell pepper, including it in chili, tacos, fajitas, and other Mexican dishes.
Slowly, you can start including more of the hot insides of the jalapeno to increase your tolerance of hot peppers.
Another thing that can help you learn to tolerate jalapeno peppers is to pair them with a dairy product. Milk and milk products contain a protein that is called casein. Casein helps break down capsaicin on a molecular level so that the hot pepper oils don’t stick so much to the inside of your mouth.
That is one reason that this recipe is a great one for those who are sensitive to heat. The cream cheese helps mitigate the effects of the capsaicin in the jalapeno peppers.
This recipe for Jalapeno Popper Chicken takes its inspiration from an appetizer called Jalapeno Poppers. In this classic recipe, jalapeno peppers are hollowed out. The hollow of the pepper is filled with a cream cheese mixture and the whole pepper is baked.
The appetizers are often served at sports parties and can be ordered at Tex-Mex restaurants.
The jalapeno popper was invented in 1992 by Appleton Foods, making 2022 the thirtieth anniversary of the jalapeno popper. The original snack featured jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese and cheddar cheese. The whole snack was breaded and deep fried, making a crispy, creamy, spicy snack.
Our recipe for Jalapeno Popper Stuffed Chicken is significantly more healthy than the original snack. However, it does give you all of the tasty flavor of the jalapeno popper snack.
