An example is the Japanese Cobra Lily.
It takes only one look to figure out where the Japanese Cobra Lily got its name. This tuberous woodland perennial is made up of a hooded leafy bract known as a spathe which enfolds an upright white flowering spike known as spadix. The external part of the spathe is dark purple, its inner layer is pure white while the hood is covered in a mixture of purple, dark green and white stripes.

Interestingly, the Japanese Cobra Lily goes dormant in the summer after it blooms and its roots contain a poisonous substance called calcium oxalate. Perhaps there may be more similarities between the plant and its animal namesake than meets the eye.
