Verbenas are a genus of 250 species that belong to the family Verbenaceae or the family of vervains, for which it is sometimes called. They originated from North and South America and Europe but can be found anywhere in tropical and subtropical climates. Depending on their location, verbenas can be grown either as perennials or as annuals.
These plants can produce flowers of assorted colors such as pink, red, blue, white and purple. The flowers consist of five petals growing in clusters on spikes. Interestingly, the leaves of verbenas have a light to heavy covering of hair and its fruit splits into four parts, each containing one seed.
