An example is the spring-blooming woodland wildflower commonly known as the Nodding Wakerobin.
Fairly popular and beloved among the spring wildflowers, the Nodding Wakerobin is the official provincial flower of Ontario and the official wildflower of Ohio. It’s one of the tallest of its genus and reaches 2′ tall. The flower consists of a branchless, naked stem crowned by a trio of heart-shaped green leaves that spreads up to 9″ across.
It also has three large white petals and three narrow green sepals. With its main parts coming in groups of three, it’s a no-brainer where its genus name Trillium (Latin word ‘tres’ meaning three) came from.
The name Wakerobin, on the other hand, comes from the fact that they bloom early enough in spring just in time before the robins return to their nests.

This graceful-looking showy flower has a reference in folklore as a symbol of modest beauty. Yet no matter how tempting it can get, resist picking the petals or the leaves or else the plant itself will die. Good thing removing these flowers from the wild has been made illegal, at least in some states.
