The cost of selling on Poshmark is on the high side though. While a $2.95 commission is charged to items you sell that are under $15, you will have to pay a 20 percent commission for items that are sold for a price that’s at $15 or higher.
Yet another site worth knowing for avid online shoppers and sellers is Rakuten. You can argue that Rakuten is better suited for buyers than it is for sellers.
Buyers can earn cashback and earn referral bonuses if they choose to shop on Rakuten. The deal offered to sellers is not quite as favorable.
Sellers will have to pay three types of fees. There is a $39 monthly fee, a $0.99 fee for every item you sell, and a commission that varies depending on the category of the product.
Considering the fees involved, Rakuten may not be the best place to start if you are a smaller seller.
Online shoppers can look to Ruby Lane as a source of quality arts and crafts as well as other kinds of collectibles. Ruby Lane is a specialty store, but their selection is still expansive.
Sellers on Ruby Lane may find the store’s terms friendly enough if they have many goods to offer.
To get started, you will have to pay a one-time set-up fee of $100. You will also have to pay a monthly maintenance fee, but you can get better value out of it if you have a lot of items to offer.
There is also a $0.19 listing fee for every item, but that does not expire. The good news is that Ruby Lane does not charge sellers any commission.
The main reason to sell on the Sears Marketplace is that they can grant you access to a large customer base and make your products available in a variety of ways. Your products can be offered via their site, their mobile app, and they may even show up in Sears Kiosks located in Sears stores.
Plus, your products will be listed alongside other Sears offerings.
You will have to pay a substantial price for all of that access and visibility.
Sears asks sellers to pay a $39.99 monthly fee and there are different commission rates imposed upon items depending on which category they belong to.
Despite its name, Swappa does not really involve you swapping items with other people. The site is still about buying and selling. More specifically, it’s about buying and selling electronics such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and cameras.
What differentiates Swappa from many of the other e-commerce sites out there is that the seller does not have to pay any fees. The buyers are the ones who will be asked to pay the fees. The fees are also fixed for escalating price ranges.
You will be the one who has to pay for shipping, but you will receive your payment before that.
Online shoppers and sellers who are interested most in fashion and other related items will want to check out Tradesy.
The site is friendly to bulk sellers because they don’t have to worry about listing fees. There are also no monthly fees charged by the site.
Tradesy makes money by charging commission instead. The commission rate is 19.8 percent on items that you sell for more than $50. You will then have the option of keeping the money you earn on Tradesy or transfer it to your bank account.
You will have to pay a 2.9 percent Safe Transfer Fee whenever you choose to withdraw your earnings from Tradesy.
Just like the Sears Marketplace, the Walmart Marketplace lures in merchants by giving them the chance to align themselves with a world-famous brand. Once you partner up with Walmart Marketplace, you can see your products listed alongside their items.
Walmart provides you with plenty of control over how you sell your products. They don’t have a fulfillment service of their own, but you can work with a partner of theirs if you want to.
There are no monthly fees with Walmart Marketplace, but they do charge so-called referral fees that work pretty similarly to commission rates. The referral fees will change depending on the type of item you’re selling.
The allure of Zazzle is that the site allows buyers to customize the items they purchase while sellers can post their own designs. Examples of items you can order personalized from Zazzle include clothes, accessories, accessories for your electronics, and items around the home.
You will also have a role to play in how much money you earn via Zazzle. You can choose how big of a percentage you receive from the sale of your own product. This is where sellers will have to conduct a balancing act of sorts because the higher the percentage of the sale they want to make, the higher the price of the product will also be.
B. App Alternatives to eBay
Selling your streetwear can be done more conveniently with the help of Bump. Bump specifically focuses on limited-release streetwear so you can find some rare finds while browsing the app.
Merchants are required to connect their PayPal account to Bump if they want to start moving their merchandise. Using the app’s included checkout component is also a must for all transactions for security purposes.
The people selling their streetwear will be the one tasked with covering the marketplace and PayPal fees. In this case, PayPal will usually charge a 2.9 percent fee while Bump will impose a six percent marketplace fee.
Different types of items can be bought and sold through Carousell, ranging from relatively small purchases such as accessories to more extravagant buys like cars. What’s different about conducting business on Carousell is that buyers and sellers also have the final say on how a transaction is completed.
The two parties will decide how the item and money are exchanged.
Depending on how the two parties decide to complete transactions, buyers will have to pay an additional fee.
If the transaction is done through CarouPay using either a debit or credit card, the buyers will need to pay a two percent third party service fee. Sellers do not need to pay any fees if the transaction is done through CarouPay.

Buyers and sellers looking to get more out of using the DHgate platform can also sign up for their VIP club.

Items such as accessories and electronics are relatively easy to sell online, but you will likely have a tougher time trying to move used cars and properties. Letgo wants to make that easier.
You can use Letgo if you have new or used cars that you want to sell or if you have some kind of property to offer. The app is also good for selling smaller items.
Some nominal posting fees may be charged to sellers, but that depends on their location and what they are offering. You can also buy listing-related services in the app that will help more people see your offerings.
Mercari can be a huge help to buyers and sellers who simply want to complete their transactions and not worry about much of anything else.
With Mercari, sellers just have to provide pictures of the item they want to sell, describe it, and then set a price. Posting a listing on Mercari does not cost sellers anything, but there are additional fees later on. If you complete a sale, you will be charged a fee that accounts for 10 percent of your item’s listed price.
It’s also worth noting that you have to pay a $2 cash out fee for every direct deposit you make that’s under $10.
OfferUp provides sellers with plenty of control over how the transactions go. You will be the one in charge of how it is ultimately priced and how it gets into the hands of a buyer.
Sellers can decide if they want to set a fixed price or give the buyers some wiggle room by offering an asking price. If you opt for an asking price, buyers can present you with their own price points for the item you’re selling.
As a seller, you can also decide between meeting up with a buyer or shipping your item. Being willing to ship your item means you gain access to a larger customer base, but you will have to pay a 12.9 percent service fee.
Shopify is more comprehensive than your typical online marketplace. Similar to most of the other apps in this category, you can use Shopify to easily purchase items online and selling is also a relatively simple process.

Fees can be a bit complicated on Shopify but expect to pay at least a 10 percent commission on your sales. You may have to pay additional taxes depending on where your store is based.
Communication is key if you want to either buy or sell on Shpock. Matters such as the final selling price and how the product is shipped are discussed by both parties. Buyers can also use the communication feature to learn more about the product they’re purchasing while sellers can use them to provide updates about the status of the item.

The process starts with an item being put up for auction. From there, buyers can then place their bids. The bidding process takes place quickly so buyers are urged to put in their best offers as soon as they can. Buyers can also opt for the Buy Now option if they would prefer to bypass the bidding.
Sellers can move more of their wares thanks to the bidding process, but they do have to pay quite a few fees, including commission and processing fees. There are optional fees sellers can pay if they want better visibility for their products.
If you do not feel completely comfortable about buying from or selling to people you don’t know anything about online, VarageSale may turn out to be the platform you need to use.
