Very few e-commerce websites can offer that kind of reach to their merchants.
All kinds of products can be sold on AliExpress. You can diversify your offerings or focus on a specific niche if you want to.
Sellers have the option of customizing their online store front to make it more appealing to potential buyers. Post the best images for the products you’re looking to sell so that they can be moved faster.
You will be asked to pay an annual fee if you opt to sell your goods on AliExpress.
Amazon, the multi-billion dollar creation of Jeff Bezos, is an e-commerce giant that has expanded greatly since its inception and is now offering a streaming service, artificial intelligence, and other products of its own. It is also the leading online retailer in numerous countries.
Much like eBay, all kinds of products are available on Amazon. Businesses of all sizes have also taken advantage of the platform the website has provided.
Selling on Amazon can be pricey.
There are monthly fees to consider and additional expenses if you want to use the Fulfillment by Amazon service. You can also run targeted ads on Amazon that are designed to be seen by customers looking for products in your niche.
Sellers who want more eyes on their high-quality creations and keepsakes may find ArtFire to be a more suitable platform.
Merchants on ArtFire have the option of selling craft supplies, vintage items, and handmade goods they personally created. The products themselves can include clothes, accessories, toys, decorations, and even wedding supplies. Don’t expect to get a new television or your supply of protein powder from the site though.
You can choose a selling plan that works best for you. Since there is no long-term commitment sellers have to meet, you can feel free to start small with your offerings and see where things go from there.
ASOS Marketplace is all about highlighting independent sellers looking to offer their stylish creations to the fashionistas of the world. Upon browsing their catalog of products, you will be able to find all kinds of great clothes and accessories provided by independent retailers.
Vintage collectors who are looking to sell some of their finds can also open up a boutique on ASOS Marketplace.
One thing to note here is that ASOS Marketplace is very picky when it comes to who they provide boutiques too. You may not be granted one right away, but you can work continuously with the site until you become qualified.
At first glance, Bonanza looks like an e-commerce site that focuses only on arts and crafts, home décor, and clothing, but that’s not the case. Take a few moments to browse through the site and you’ll find that it has quite a diverse collection of products on offer. You can pick up a new video game for your kid along with a new sweater for yourself while shopping on Bonanza.
Getting started on Bonanza is pretty easy if you’re a seller. You don’t have to pay a fixed fee and opt to just have the site collect a percentage of your profits. Sellers also have the option of allowing Bonanza to collect a higher percentage so that their products are listed on more channels.
Bookoo’s aim is to bring yard and garage sales into the modern age and that presents a clear advantage and disadvantage.
On one hand, you can save more money by buying or selling on Bookoo. There are no shipping fees involved and the item and money exchange can be done in person so that everyone is satisfied with the deal.
On the other hand, you’re at the mercy of geography. If there’s no one in your immediate area who’s selling what you’re looking for, then you’re out of luck.
Bookoo works best for folks who are looking to supplement their income by selling a few valuables that are just lying around the house.
BookScouter is the place to go to if you want to save money by buying or renting some used books or make money by selling used textbooks you no longer need.
A key thing to note here is that BookScouter is not the one buying the books from you. Instead, what the site does is search online for the websites interested in buying the book you are offering. The site will then compile all of the offers those sites have made for your book and then present them to you.
It will be up to you to decide which site you want to sell your book to.
Merchants who want to avoid paying a fee to sell online will likely find the BriskSale platform to their liking. There are no fees you have to pay if you want to sell something on BriskSale.
Now, you may want to pay for BriskSellers who can market your products. The BriskSellers will look through the site in search of products they think they can sell. If you indicated that you will pay a commission for your product, BriskSellers can start advertising it.
The fee you will have to pay to the BriskSeller will depend on the amount you listed in the “commission” field when you were listing your product.
BuyBackWorld can help you if you are looking to purchase or sell your used electronics. There are other places online that can help you move your old gadgets, but BuyBackWorld stands out by making the process easier for sellers.
Sellers no longer have to create listings or worry about shipping when they use BuyBackWorld. You will also receive an instant quote on the item you are looking to sell.
If you’re a buyer, you will be able to sort through a selection of used electronic devices offered at more affordable prices.
Aside from the electronic devices, gift cards can also be bought and sold through BuyBackWorld.
College textbooks can serve as good sources of supplemental income. If you still have some of them around the house that you no longer need, selling them at Cash4Books is an option.
After you type in the ISBN of the book you want to sell, Cash4Books will provide you with a price quote. Should you decide to move forward with the sale, shipping will be free and you can expect the payment to arrive in around two weeks or so.
Cash4Books will also handle the PayPal fees for you if you decide to use that website instead of opting for a check.
Homeowners looking to change up their décor will be able to find many suitable items at Chairish. The site offers buyers a wide selection of furniture, wall decorations, artworks, pieces of jewelry, and several other high-quality goods. You can also choose to sell those items on Chairish.
You should know that you won’t be able to sell as soon as you open an account on Chairish. The listings you create will still have to be reviewed and it may take the site three to five days to review them and get back to you.
Chairish will take a commission from the items you manage to sell via their site.
Craigslist is different from many of the other websites featured in this article because it is not solely used for buying or selling items. You can also post job ads on the website. That said, Craigslist still works if you have items to offer.
The site has also grown in popularity because of how affordable it is, especially if you are selling smaller items. You will only have to pay their fees if you are posting services or selling certain items.
You also don’t have to deal with many limitations with regard to what you can sell on Craigslist.
The key feature that sets Decluttr apart from other websites that enable users to sell their electronics is that they allow people to lock in a price.
To get started, you will be asked to input the make, model, and condition of the device you want to sell. After doing so, Decluttr will present you with a valuation. That valuation will then be locked in for 28 days.
You can use those 28 days to look for a replacement device or a better offer if you so choose.
Decluttr also offers different payment options. They can pay via a check, a direct deposit, or through PayPal.
One of the sites often mentioned as something comparable to eBay is eBid. That’s due in large part to eBid also offering the auction mechanics that have become synonymous with eBay.
Buying on the site is simple enough, but there are some additional things to note if you want to be a seller. For starters, prospective merchants will have to decide if they only want a Seller account or if they want to go for a Seller+ account.
There is an upgrade fee that has to be paid for those who want a Seller+ account, but they won’t have to deal with the auction final value fees that are presented to Sellers.
Online merchants looking for a cost-efficient way to move their items can look to eCrater for help. The site will not charge merchants any commission, monthly fees or final value fees. However, eCrater will collect a 2.9 percent marketplace cost on sales they brought to you via their main marketplace.
Interestingly enough, the site does allow merchants not to pay that marketplace cost. If you decide not to pay, your store will still be active, but your ranking may decrease and your products may no longer appear on their marketplace.
The website also makes it easier for sellers to customize their storefronts.
Etsy has emerged as one of the leading digital marketplaces for buyers and selling looking for unique items. You will mainly find accessories and artworks on the site, but the sellers there also provide clothes and home décor.
Sellers do have to contend with quite a few fees if they want to offer their wares on Etsy. The site charges a small listing fee and once you make a sale, you will also have to pay a transaction fee. People selling on Etsy will also be the ones in charge of paying the fees on PayPal.
Etsy also offers its sellers additional tools for a monthly fee.
The two main benefits of using Facebook Marketplace for selling your items are the storefront’s reach and the cost you have to pay.
When it comes to reach, it’s hard to beat what Facebook Marketplace because the social networking site it’s connected to is used by millions of people. If you have an active Facebook account, selling on its companion Marketplace also becomes remarkably easy.
Merchants don’t have to worry about paying a fee if they decide to sell on Facebook Marketplace. However, you will have to negotiate possible additional fees with your buyer since Facebook steers clear of those matters.
Smartphone sellers may not want to share a digital storefront with merchants who are offering other items. Glyde provides an alternative platform for those sellers.
Glyde is focused just on the buying and selling of smartphones. Notably, only Apple and Samsung smartphones are offered and bought by Glyde.
Buyers can choose from a selection of new and pre-owned Apple and Samsung smartphones.
As a seller, you will be asked to answer a few questions about what kind of Apple or Samsung device you are offering and the condition it is in. After answering those questions, Glyde will present you with a trade-in price.
A good way to describe Jet is that it’s a marketplace that emphasizes quality, even more so than similar sites do. Because of that, you may have a tough time selling on the site.
First off, it can take Jet weeks before they approve a product to be sold because of their extensive review process. If you aren’t selling branded products, there’s also a good chance you won’t be approved.
At this point, Jet’s reach is also limited to the mainland U.S.
However, if you do gain approval from the site, it will be easier to move your products since buyers know the reputation the site has.
Light in the Box
Light in the Box is a pretty straightforward online marketplace.
As a seller, you will be in charge of pricing and customizing the listing for your item. Once a buyer purchases an item from you, it is also your job to handle the shipping. You can ship your product to a warehouse operated by Light in the Box.
Light in the Box helps out their merchants by handling customer service and overseas operations. You can also track where your products are with their help.
There are no fixed fees for you to pay, but Light in the Box does charge a 15 percent commission.
Newegg specializes in providing computers and computer components to their customers, although they have expanded their offerings to include other household items. Even after expansion, you will be best served at Newegg if you intend to sell items related to computers.
The site also offers services similar to what Amazon provides. They have warehouses that can hold your products and they have employees who will pick, package and ship those items if you decide to sign up for the Newegg Fulfillment program.
The commission rates are a bit high on Newegg though and if you want to make use of all their tools, you will have to subscribe to their premium memberships that come with monthly fees attached.
Unlike some of the trade-in sites that were featured earlier in this article, NextWorth does not offer visitors a way to purchase new or pre-owned electronics. The site is only for trading in your pre-owned electronics.
The site mainly accepts smartphones, tablets, and wearables for trade-ins.
You can receive a quote from NextWorth quickly and the site will guarantee that price for up to 30 days. Another advantage of working with NextWorth is that they will not charge you extra for shipping and you will also receive free insurance for the item you send their way.
Sellers can get paid either through check or via PayPal.
Poshmark is a digital storefront dedicated to the buying and selling of fashionable items. You will be able to find items from numerous famous brands such as Burberry, Chanel, and Victoria’s Secret just to name a few.
Becoming a Poshmark seller is easy. You just need to upload pictures of what you want to sell, create a description for it, set a price, and you’re done.
Poshmark also holds Posh Parties that allow multiple buyers and sellers to interact with one another.
The cost of selling on Poshmark is on the high side though. While a $2.95 commission is charged to items you sell that are under $15, you will have to pay a 20 percent commission for items that are sold for a price that’s at $15 or higher.
Yet another site worth knowing for avid online shoppers and sellers is Rakuten. You can argue that Rakuten is better suited for buyers than it is for sellers.
Buyers can earn cashback and earn referral bonuses if they choose to shop on Rakuten. The deal offered to sellers is not quite as favorable.
Sellers will have to pay three types of fees. There is a $39 monthly fee, a $0.99 fee for every item you sell, and a commission that varies depending on the category of the product.
Considering the fees involved, Rakuten may not be the best place to start if you are a smaller seller.
Online shoppers can look to Ruby Lane as a source of quality arts and crafts as well as other kinds of collectibles. Ruby Lane is a specialty store, but their selection is still expansive.
Sellers on Ruby Lane may find the store’s terms friendly enough if they have many goods to offer.
To get started, you will have to pay a one-time set-up fee of $100. You will also have to pay a monthly maintenance fee, but you can get better value out of it if you have a lot of items to offer.
There is also a $0.19 listing fee for every item, but that does not expire. The good news is that Ruby Lane does not charge sellers any commission.
The main reason to sell on the Sears Marketplace is that they can grant you access to a large customer base and make your products available in a variety of ways. Your products can be offered via their site, their mobile app, and they may even show up in Sears Kiosks located in Sears stores.
Plus, your products will be listed alongside other Sears offerings.
You will have to pay a substantial price for all of that access and visibility.
Sears asks sellers to pay a $39.99 monthly fee and there are different commission rates imposed upon items depending on which category they belong to.
Despite its name, Swappa does not really involve you swapping items with other people. The site is still about buying and selling. More specifically, it’s about buying and selling electronics such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and cameras.
What differentiates Swappa from many of the other e-commerce sites out there is that the seller does not have to pay any fees. The buyers are the ones who will be asked to pay the fees. The fees are also fixed for escalating price ranges.
You will be the one who has to pay for shipping, but you will receive your payment before that.
Online shoppers and sellers who are interested most in fashion and other related items will want to check out Tradesy.
The site is friendly to bulk sellers because they don’t have to worry about listing fees. There are also no monthly fees charged by the site.
Tradesy makes money by charging commission instead. The commission rate is 19.8 percent on items that you sell for more than $50. You will then have the option of keeping the money you earn on Tradesy or transfer it to your bank account.
You will have to pay a 2.9 percent Safe Transfer Fee whenever you choose to withdraw your earnings from Tradesy.
Just like the Sears Marketplace, the Walmart Marketplace lures in merchants by giving them the chance to align themselves with a world-famous brand. Once you partner up with Walmart Marketplace, you can see your products listed alongside their items.
Walmart provides you with plenty of control over how you sell your products. They don’t have a fulfillment service of their own, but you can work with a partner of theirs if you want to.
There are no monthly fees with Walmart Marketplace, but they do charge so-called referral fees that work pretty similarly to commission rates. The referral fees will change depending on the type of item you’re selling.
The allure of Zazzle is that the site allows buyers to customize the items they purchase while sellers can post their own designs. Examples of items you can order personalized from Zazzle include clothes, accessories, accessories for your electronics, and items around the home.
You will also have a role to play in how much money you earn via Zazzle. You can choose how big of a percentage you receive from the sale of your own product. This is where sellers will have to conduct a balancing act of sorts because the higher the percentage of the sale they want to make, the higher the price of the product will also be.
B. App Alternatives to eBay
Selling your streetwear can be done more conveniently with the help of Bump. Bump specifically focuses on limited-release streetwear so you can find some rare finds while browsing the app.
Merchants are required to connect their PayPal account to Bump if they want to start moving their merchandise. Using the app’s included checkout component is also a must for all transactions for security purposes.
The people selling their streetwear will be the one tasked with covering the marketplace and PayPal fees. In this case, PayPal will usually charge a 2.9 percent fee while Bump will impose a six percent marketplace fee.
Different types of items can be bought and sold through Carousell, ranging from relatively small purchases such as accessories to more extravagant buys like cars. What’s different about conducting business on Carousell is that buyers and sellers also have the final say on how a transaction is completed.
The two parties will decide how the item and money are exchanged.
Depending on how the two parties decide to complete transactions, buyers will have to pay an additional fee.
If the transaction is done through CarouPay using either a debit or credit card, the buyers will need to pay a two percent third party service fee. Sellers do not need to pay any fees if the transaction is done through CarouPay.
The Depop app can work as a kind of one-stop-shop for fans of streetwear. Events and parties are sometimes announced through the app, thus allowing users nearby to mingle with their fellow streetwear lovers.
The bread and butter of Depop remain its marketplace though.
Interested sellers can quickly post their products and highlight their features using photos and videos. They can also use hashtags to drive traffic to their listings.
Fees are somewhat high on Depop. The app charges a 10 percent fee on top of the 2.9 percent transaction fee from PayPal. Depop is working on its own Depop Payments feature as an alternative to PayPal, but notably, the fees will remain the same.
Primarily known as a platform Chinese sellers can use to market their offerings to the rest of the world, DHgate has begun to open up more and enable more people to utilize their services.
One can argue that DHgate is still better suited at the moment for buyers than it is for sellers, however.
Buyers who have a few bucks to spare from their online shopping budget can check out the app’s $1.99 store to see if anything there catches their eye. People can also save money while shopping on DHgate if they decide to buy certain items in bulk.
Buyers and sellers looking to get more out of using the DHgate platform can also sign up for their VIP club.
Grailed takes streetwear very seriously. You’ll have to bring branded goods to Grailed if you want them to sell. There are even four dedicated categories for the streetwear brands – Grails, Hype, Sartorial, and Core – that sellers will need to use so that buyers can find their products faster.
The seller can set the price for their item. If you don’t know what is an appropriate price point for your item, you can make use of Grailed’s Price Comparison feature.
Grailed charges sellers a six percent commission on their sales. The seller will also be in charge of paying the 2.9 percent PayPal fee for domestic transactions or the 4.4 percent fee for international transactions.
Online shoppers looking for a place to buy clothes, accessories, and other items to use around the home can sign up for Joom. The app gives users access to a large marketplace featuring items at different price points. Buyers can also play games on the app to earn discounts on selected items.
Selling on Joom can be a bit tricky however and that’s mainly because of the variable commission that the app charges. While you don’t need to be concerned about listing and subscription fees, the commission rate can range from five percent on the low end to 15 percent on the high end.
Items such as accessories and electronics are relatively easy to sell online, but you will likely have a tougher time trying to move used cars and properties. Letgo wants to make that easier.
You can use Letgo if you have new or used cars that you want to sell or if you have some kind of property to offer. The app is also good for selling smaller items.
Some nominal posting fees may be charged to sellers, but that depends on their location and what they are offering. You can also buy listing-related services in the app that will help more people see your offerings.
Mercari can be a huge help to buyers and sellers who simply want to complete their transactions and not worry about much of anything else.
With Mercari, sellers just have to provide pictures of the item they want to sell, describe it, and then set a price. Posting a listing on Mercari does not cost sellers anything, but there are additional fees later on. If you complete a sale, you will be charged a fee that accounts for 10 percent of your item’s listed price.
It’s also worth noting that you have to pay a $2 cash out fee for every direct deposit you make that’s under $10.
OfferUp provides sellers with plenty of control over how the transactions go. You will be the one in charge of how it is ultimately priced and how it gets into the hands of a buyer.
Sellers can decide if they want to set a fixed price or give the buyers some wiggle room by offering an asking price. If you opt for an asking price, buyers can present you with their own price points for the item you’re selling.
As a seller, you can also decide between meeting up with a buyer or shipping your item. Being willing to ship your item means you gain access to a larger customer base, but you will have to pay a 12.9 percent service fee.
Shopify is more comprehensive than your typical online marketplace. Similar to most of the other apps in this category, you can use Shopify to easily purchase items online and selling is also a relatively simple process.
What sets Shopify apart is that it provides sellers with more tools for managing their products. Merchants can utilize Shopify’s features for the purposes of tracking the products in their digital storefront and marketing them as well.
Fees can be a bit complicated on Shopify but expect to pay at least a 10 percent commission on your sales. You may have to pay additional taxes depending on where your store is based.
Communication is key if you want to either buy or sell on Shpock. Matters such as the final selling price and how the product is shipped are discussed by both parties. Buyers can also use the communication feature to learn more about the product they’re purchasing while sellers can use them to provide updates about the status of the item.
The fee structure for sellers using the Shpock app is tiered. You will have to pay more as the price of your product goes higher. Sellers should also remember that those escalating fees do not include the additional PayPal fees.
At first glance, StockX may appear like most other platforms built for the buying and selling of streetwear, but that is not exactly the case. The unique quality StockX features is baked into how it operates.
The StockX platform features Asks from the sellers and Bids from the buyers. The Ask is essentially the price point that you are willing to sell your product for. If you have posted the lowest Ask, a buyer who puts forth a matching Bid will automatically make a purchase from you.
Notably, your Ask will remain active even if a lower offer from another seller beat yours.
If you want to bypass all of that, you can do so by utilizing the Sell Now method.
Merchants will have to pay a three percent processing fee along with a variable transaction fee that is dependent on your account and what you are selling.
Tophatter can serve as your go-to app if you want to purchase valuables at low prices while taking part in bids.
The process starts with an item being put up for auction. From there, buyers can then place their bids. The bidding process takes place quickly so buyers are urged to put in their best offers as soon as they can. Buyers can also opt for the Buy Now option if they would prefer to bypass the bidding.
Sellers can move more of their wares thanks to the bidding process, but they do have to pay quite a few fees, including commission and processing fees. There are optional fees sellers can pay if they want better visibility for their products.
If you do not feel completely comfortable about buying from or selling to people you don’t know anything about online, VarageSale may turn out to be the platform you need to use.
VarageSale asks everyone using their platform to undergo a thorough vetting process. You can be confident negotiating deals because of that.
One potential roadblock that comes with selling on VarageSale is the location. Both buyers and sellers will need to meet up to complete a deal so your market will be limited in some way.
The good news is that you will not have to deal with excessive fees if you use VarageSale.
The Vinted app can help people clear out the extra items they no longer need in their wardrobe.
Vinted has attracted numerous users with its easy-to-grasp posting system. You take a photo of the item you want to sell, provide a few details about it, offer a price, and then post it.
Do note that buyers can still negotiate the price with you and even offer some trades.
The buyer will decide how the item is shipped and the cost to do so. The sellers don’t have to worry about the shipping fee, but they do have to pay a fixed fee as well as a service fee that can range from three to eight percent of the price of the item they sold.
The last of the eBay alternatives in this article is the Wish app. Wish has made a name for itself by allowing people to get their hands on premium items that are available at low prices. The app also caters to the needs of their many shoppers by offering a wide array of products from categories such as electronics and accessories.
Wish also implements a different system for paying out their merchants.
Instead of asking sellers to pay fees, Wish pays them “revenue shares.” While it sounds different, it still functions similarly to a fee.
Sellers will tell Wish how much a product sold for and the app will take its share based on the agreement in place.
