If you’re a pet owner, having a vacuum that picks up pet hair off furniture, pillows and the floor is a widely sought-after vacuum. Accordingly, we put this list together.
We don’t have a pet, so I haven’t tested these vacuums personally for pet hair performance. The following is based on research and reading many customer reviews. It’s also based on our recently researching cordless vacuums which we needed and ended up buying the Dyson featured below.

Important Features to Consider
When looking and research vacuums for this purpose, you should consider the following (a brief buying guide):
- Cleaning Performance: this is primary. You want a vacuum that actually picks up pet hair and other debris. This is based on attachments and of course suction power.
- Filtration: Does the vacuum include any filters to prevent airborne spreading of debris?
- Stand-up vs. handheld: Both are good, but cordless vacuums come in both designs. Some upright vacuums can be turned into handheld, such as the Dyson below (the one we have). Some are simply handheld vacuums.
- Attachments: Does it have all the attachments you seek for your vacuuming purposes?
- Lightweight: Definitely compare the weights. This is a very important consideration because who wants to lug around a heavy vacuum, especially if used as a handheld.
- Charging time: As for any cordless appliance, you want one that charges reasonably quickly.
- Duration on charge: Our Dyson lasts 13 minutes per charge, which isn’t great. While it serves us well, there have been instances where 30 to 45 minutes would have been good.
- Warranty: Personally, I don’t care about warranties. I’m seriously not going to take the time to send something in at this price point, but I totally get it if warranties are important to you and if so, check it out.
