I am a confessed hedonist. Everyone knows that I love good food and good wine. I make no apologies for it. I am also a bachelor, but I am what you might call a family-friendly bachelor in that I have a gathered a number of close friends over the years, many of whom have families of their own that they share with me.
All this has compelled me to learn how to cook good meals. And I have come across a great many beef and rice recipes that are absolutely delicious. Here are some of them.
1. Mexican fare that is loaded with vegetables and taste.
The best Mexican dishes are huge, and this one is no different. This Mexican beef and rice recipe is also great as leftovers. You can re-heat it in your microwave or in a pan and it will lose none of its taste.
There are a few things that are worth highlighting. You should cook the dish in a large and heavy-bottomed skillet. When it is time to add the garlic, make sure you cook it for at least 60 seconds or until it is golden brown and fragrant.
If you have leftovers, you should store them in a tightly covered container. Do not let it sit in the fridge for more than three days.
2. From Russia with love, beef and rice.
Beef Stroganoff is a classic comfort food. It is believed that the original meal was invented by French cooks who worked for the aristocratic Stroganov family in the 19th century. However, the cooks merely tweaked an existing Russian recipe, which makes the dish Russian in origin.
To get the most flavor out of this dish, you must ensure that the meat is tender and savory by cooking it for several hours. You must also give due attention to the sauce. This particular recipe uses sour cream and a variety of herbs and seasonings.
3. A tasty classic Korean dish cooked in less twenty minutes
This is a great meal that can serve a family of 4 and can be ready in very little time. It is the kind of meal to prepare after a long day at work. All you need to do is pick up a pound of lean ground beef. The rest of the ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard.
In a large skillet, cook the beef and garlic over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink. In a separate bowl mix brown sugar, soy sauce, oil, and other seasonings, and then stir this mixture in with the beef. That’s all.
4. For those days when you will be on your own.
One of the joys of being a bachelor is that I get to decide when I want to be alone, and the number of days I want to stay that way. During such times, I like to make simple meals that are nevertheless tasty. Easy beef fried rice is one of them.
This dish requires oil, eggs, diced carrots, onions, garlic and peas. I prefer to use white rice for this meal because it does not clump together. Soy and oyster sauce and sesame oil are also needed. A large amount of this rice can be made all at once without worrying about losing flavor. If you are going to be on your own for a while, you can put leftovers in a tight container and snack on the dish over a few days.
5. Make this classic from the 1950s in your own home.
The highly popular stir-fry beef dish known as Mongolian beef has little to do with the country itself. It was actually created in Taiwan in the 1950s. It seems to have gotten its name from a loose association of barbeque style cooking with Mongolian cuisine.
Barbeque is appropriately linked to the dish, as its most notable trait is the tenderized slices of beef that are simmered together in a sweet and savory sauce. The dish is best served over steamed rice.
6. There is never any real substitute for a classic.
This recipe for classic beef fried rice can serve up to 6 people and can be ready in less than 35 minutes. You should take note that you will need a wok to obtain the best results. You should heat the wok over medium heat. When you are ready to add the oil and eggs, you should scramble them until they are only slightly cooked. It is important to follow the instructions in this regard so that you don’t overcook these ingredients.
7. A new way of making stew.
On cold winter or nights or cool autumn evenings, a nice stew can be a source of warmth and comfort. Stew beef and rice is not only savory, it is very filling. As with all stews, it takes a little while to make (in this case, an hour and a half). You can make the stew using a large pot or skillet. Never rush the process by turning up the flame. Medium heat is best if you want tender beef and juice that is filled with spice and flavor. The stew should be served warm over rice.
8. Potatoes are not the only thing that steak goes well with.
This dish consists of spicy beef and bell pepper over a bed of rice. The recipe is easy to follow, and the ingredients are easy to find. You can make this steak and rice combo in less than 30 minutes.
While some people like to eat the fat that comes with steak, I don’t. If you lean toward my way of thinking, then you will need to trim any fat from around the steak before cooking it. You should also remove the seeds from the green bell pepper, and slice the latter into 3-inch long strips as part of your preparation.
9. Beef and broccoli: two great things that go great together.
Broccoli is supposedly a vegetable that most people hate. I, for one, cannot get enough of it. And I found that this recipe combines a number of foods that I am rather fond of.
This is another dish that requires a wok or a deep skillet. You will need to use the latter to cook the beef. You will then need to marinade it thoroughly and set it aside. You should also scramble the eggs before you mix them with the rest of the vegetables. The dish is best served with scallions.
10. Another filling dish for a dinner party.
Ground beef and rice skillet is not exactly a gourmet meal. However, it is tasty and filling enough for you to get away with serving it at a dinner party. It can be made in less than an hour, which is good if you do not have the time to spend hours in the kitchen before your guests arrive.
I am a busy man, but I am also a sociable one. This is my go-to recipe on days when my workload has shredded my carefully laid dinner party plans, and I have to come up with something that is respectable and yet easy to make. Most of the ingredients you probably already have. You may have to go out for the ground beef and the Monterey Jack cheese.
You should sprinkle the dish with a bit of parsley before serving.
11. A great beef and broccoli combo—with a twist.
In addition to the instructions in the link, there are a few things to note about this dish. You should use a non-stick pot as it makes the clean-up easier. If you use long grain or brown rice, then you will need to cook the meal even longer. Colby Jack or cheddar cheese works well.
12. Maybe the best chili beef and rice recipe that you will find.
If you are fan of chili, then this one is for you. Although you can serve up to 4 people using this recipe, I prefer to cook the dish for myself and live off it for a few days. It is best made in a large pan and with freshly bought minced beef. A dash or two of your favorite red wine will really bring out the flavor of the meat. Serve it with boiled white rice.
Serve with freshly boiled rice.
13. Ground beef and rice Med style
This delicious ground beef and rice dish is made with chickpeas. It is quick and easy to make and is filled with flavor.
Indeed, you are not limited to chickpeas as a condiment. You can add whatever veggies you have to the dish. If you are vegetarian, you can use water or vegetarian broth in place of the chicken broth. You should sprinkle fresh parsley on it before serving.
14. Yet another Mongolian (read BBQ) inspired beef and rice dish.
This spicy beef fried rice dish includes marinated sliced rump steak in soy and chili and an assortment of vegetables. It can serve up to 2 people, but being the kind of useful eater that I am, I find that the recipe yields enough for me alone. In addition to the usual carrots, peppers, and garlic, you should add a healthy dose of finely chopped ginger if you really want to bring the flavor out.
15. A gift from the Caribbean nation of Jamaica
My grandfather was from Barbados, and so I grew up in a home filled with the aroma of Caribbean cooking. As I have gotten older, I have longed to relive some of those sensory memories. This particular dish is one of my favorites. The stew is best made with habanero peppers, which are indigenous to Jamaica and can be found at specialty shops or online. When cooking the meat, you should ensure that it browns properly. This will build depth as the dish slow-cooks.
16. Another steak and rice dish—with Sake
Although it is possible to substitute sherry or Marsala for the sake, you should stick with the latter. Sake is the national alcoholic drink of Japan. I lived in the country for over 5 years and had sake more than a few times. Drinking it straight up took some getting used to, especially for a gaijin (foreigner) like me. However, it is an excellent complement to any rice dish since the drink itself is fermented rice.
17. It would be unfair to leave out this beef and rice skillet recipe.
This is another Mexican-inspired dish. The most important thing to pay attention to is the meat. It should be cooked in a large skillet over medium heat. Again, do not try to rush the cooking of the meat by turning up the flame. You will only burn the outside while leaving the inside pinkish and undercooked. When you add the diced peppers, you should let them cook for at least a minute. The same goes for the other ingredients. The better cooked they are, the more pleasant and flavorful your meal will be.
18. This Tex-Mex meal will leave you wanting more.
This can be made in about 30 to 35 minutes and can serve up to 6 people. You should use a non-stick skillet, as it makes clean-up much easier.
I have had great success with this dish. It is perfect for summer picnics and other outdoor gatherings with close friends. It is a low-maintenance dish that can be enjoyed with salsa chips, fries, and other snack foods. It should be served with cheese and cilantro on top.
19. The best beef and pepper steak you are likely to find.
I have had a particular fondness for this dish since my days as an undergraduate. It was served often for dinner at the college cafeteria. This recipe is much better than the one I experienced in those days. The addition of paprika and other spices gives the flavor a punch that makes it even more delicious.
Beef rendang and turmeric rice is very good. I break out this recipe whenever I have someone over who I want to impress. It does not take too long to make, but it is important to follow the instructions carefully. This is the key to getting the balance of flavors that will make the meal satisfying.
21. An old and tasty minced beef and rice recipe from Hong Kong.
The key to making this dish is the marination of the beef. It must be done with the correct amount of sugar, corn starch, soy sauce, and white pepper powder. This mixture must be stirred and allowed to sit for no less than 15 minutes. The beef should be served over white rice with an egg on top.
I made Hong King minced beef on rice once for a small gathering of friends. Everyone liked it, and I found myself without my usual leftovers to snack on.
