If you love houseplants, you probably know just how expensive all of those fancy plant stands and pots can be. With more stores than ever selling beautiful pottery and small accent tables, including mass retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart, you might feel a little bit overwhelmed at just how many options are out there.
Well, one TikTok creator by the name of sillylittleplants has the perfect inspiration for you. She explains that she started out by finding a small black trash bin in the garbage at her apartment building. I assume the black color inspired her and she decided it could be the perfect base for a new plant stand.

Steps to Make this Project
After she snagged the trash bin, she found a matching black plate at Goodwill that was originally from Target. Note that the plate’s diameter is larger than the trash can since it will eventually become the “top” of the plant stand.
Once she had these two pieces, she glued them together using E6000 glue. This glue is extremely powerful and can supposedly hold just about anything together. She mentioned that a lot of viewers “lost their minds” about her using this glue before, and she said that she was aware it has a vapor warning. S
he also cautions everyone to read the warnings themselves, but for her, she’s using the glue because it works really well. She starts by gluing the bottom of the plate and attaching it to the bottom of the trash bin. She flipped it over and added two more rings of glue around the edges for good measure.
After the glue had dried, she flipped the piece over and you can see how the top of the plate makes a perfect surface for a potted houseplant. I love the way the black colors came together beautifully for a perfect match, and it definitely has that modern-slash-farmhouse vibe that could easily work in any space. I also wanted to point out that black is a great choice for a plant stand because it really helps the greenery of the plant stand out.
This is a great way to salvage old items and give them a new lease on life. And even if you don’t want to use this as a plant stand, it could also work as a small drink table or accent table in another part of your home.
What viewers said about this
Despite the past comments about the glue she used, one viewer said, “E 6000 is the best glue, I have fixed so many things around my house with it!”
Viewer mamma_shann liked the plant stand and had a suggestion of her own, saying, “That would look cool with that faux stone spray paint too”, and the video creator responded by agreeing with the idea.
I personally think this is a really neat way to get inspired to make something of your own using found items. Not only is it cheaper than buying something brand-new, but it’s also an eco-friendly and sustainable way to reuse items that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
You can find your own trash bin and plate of any size, color, and material, and then grab a tube of E6000 glue and give this a try. I might even go through my house and look for a few items that I am no longer using, and see what two things I can glue together to make my very own miniature accent table or plant stand!
